Product design: a Solocal proprietary sales tool


DESCRIPTION

As a Product Designer at Solocal, I was seconded part-time to the Customer Success Department from March 2020 onwards. My primary responsibility was to develop a proprietary sales tool aimed at improving efficiency and user experience for our Sales Teams.

At the project’s outset, my access to end-users was limited. However, I conducted thorough audits of existing tools and received comprehensive briefings from marketing managers regarding our product lines.

Working within an Agile Feature Team alongside a Product Owner, an Architect, and up to 5 Developers, our international collaboration was instrumental. During this period, my contributions included:

  • Analysis of Previous Tools: Conducted assessments to understand the strengths and weaknesses of prior tools.
  • Stakeholder Needs Analysis: Worked closely with stakeholders to define the scope of our Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
  • User Research: Spent two days shadowing telemarketers to gain insights into user behaviors and pain points, resulting in the creation of personas.
  • Collaborative Design: Worked with the Architect and Product Owner to develop a seamless user journey, iterating on a target vision using wireframes and interactive prototypes.
  • Empowering Development: Created a dedicated Design System to guide developers in implementing user stories autonomously, ensuring alignment with our design principles.
  • Establishing UX Principles: Defined project UX principles to maintain consistency amidst changing roadmaps, feature additions, and potential designer transitions.
  • Scalable Solutions: Designed an adaptable and industrialized tool capable of hosting and accommodating multiple product types, laying the foundation for future scalability.

Throughout this process, adherence to Agile methodologies facilitated our progress, enabling us to navigate complexities and deliver a transformative solution for Solocal’s Sales Teams.
